Shire Oak is an 11 to 18 comprehensive academy which, in 2003, received designation as a specialist science college.
The academy has over 1,400 students on roll and was described as a purposeful, stimulating and harmonious environment in its most recent Ofsted inspection.
The academy staff and students work hard together to create such an environment.
As with most educational institutes, Shire Oak had a basic website in place. However, the Principal and Assistant Principal both felt the site lacked an appealing design. It was in desperate need of an overhaul in both its layout and content organisation.
The academy originally had specific requests with regard to the integration of RealSmart functionality – a WordPress-based system into which they had invested considerable funding. The second incarnation of the site had a much cleaner layout and easier to navigate design.
However, once their RealSmart contract reached its end, Shire Oak approached us once again to give the site its third makeover and so the design you see now was born.
The site began as 3 simple PDF drafts which the senior staff and governors could choose from. Once a decision had been made, we liaised and work closely with the ICT staff at Shire Oak to ensure the site remained functional and stylish throughout both stages of the building process – from its original state to the new RealSmart design and then into its latest look.
Upon completion, the website was moved from the development server to replace the academy’s existing site. Being WordPress based, the Principal and ICT staff are now able to update the site daily.
